Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

  • A tradition of resistance

April 19th is the 81st anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, when Jewish resistance fighters in the Warsaw Ghetto—many in their teens and twenties—launched a sustained guerrilla battle in response to a planned Nazi mass deportation to the death camps.

Descendants of members of the uprising, along with Yiddish speakers, singers, cultural activists, and other community members have gathered every year since 1947 at der shteyn, the memorial stone in Riverside Park, on the anniversary of the uprising to remember these heroes.

Join Congress for Jewish Culture, Friends of the Bund, the Jewish Labor Committee, Workers Circle, and YIVO on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2 PM in Riverside Park to commemorate the bravery of the partisans of the Warsaw Ghetto.
