LACUNY Services for Incarcerated People Roundtable

The Services for Incarcerated People Roundtable provides a forum for librarians who support, or are interested in supporting, library services for incarcerated people to discuss current issues, broaden their understanding, and raise awareness of information barriers within the carceral system. The Roundtable connects CUNY librarians with other librarian-led groups, such as Prison Library Support Network, that provide direct services to incarcerated people, and serves as a resource for CUNY groups such as the UFS Committee on Higher Education in the Prisons and those working in prison education programs. https://lacunysips.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Updates from the Prison Library Support Networl

  • Reference Project Unpause:

As of April 1, our reference project is unpaused!  If you are a trained reference volunteer, watch your email for the sign-up sheet to claim your first letter of 2024. Please remember that even one answered letter helps keep our reference project afloat. Thank you to everybody in our working groups who have been working so hard to thoughtfully restart this project.

In order to keep our future reference work sustainable and successful, we’ve been working hard to develop new rules + guidelines for our process/policies. You can see these new guidelines here. We’ll also soon be unveiling new volunteer accountability + conflict management statements. If you’re a trained reference volunteer, watch your inbox for specific emails.

    Coordinator Updates:

If you’d like to get involved in coordinator work or have any questions, please send us an email at plsn_nyc@protonmail.com… You can find descriptions of different coordinator roles, which can all be done 100% remotely, on our FAQ page — tell us what you’re interested in and we’ll get you connected with the right person!

    New Reference Volunteer Trainings:

We’re hosting three reference training sessions in April and May. These will be uncapped trainings to address recent interest. No library experience is needed to become a trained PLSN reference volunteer. Please share this information with anyone you think might be interested.
