LACUNY Services for Incarcerated People Roundtable

The Services for Incarcerated People Roundtable provides a forum for librarians who support, or are interested in supporting, library services for incarcerated people to discuss current issues, broaden their understanding, and raise awareness of information barriers within the carceral system. The Roundtable connects CUNY librarians with other librarian-led groups, such as Prison Library Support Network, that provide direct services to incarcerated people, and serves as a resource for CUNY groups such as the UFS Committee on Higher Education in the Prisons and those working in prison education programs. https://lacunysips.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Call for Volunteers from the Prison Activist Resource Center

  • Are you looking for a way to flex your information worker muscles and support incarcerated people? The Prison Activist Resource Center is looking for volunteers (located anywhere!) to help update the awesome resource directory that they send to incarcerated people. From Taeva at PARC:

The Prison Activist Resource Center is an abolitionist collective with a focus on information distribution into prisons and jails. PARC publishes a 28-page directory that is mailed out for free to incarcerated individuals to provide access to educational, self-help, and rehabilitation information. It has operated as an all-volunteer collective since 1996.

PARC is currently seeking volunteers to research the organizations listed in the directory and support in updating the 2024 edition for print and online. Work is remote, mostly research online and may include some phone calls. The directory is available online here: https://www.prisonactivist.<wbr />org/resources.
If interested, contact project director Taeva at taevas@gmail.com by July 10 to get involved.
