Open Access Week 2014

  • Hi Karen,

I’m glad you got the conversation started. I had a couple of ideas I have been storing up for open access week and thought perhaps a few people working together can get something going.

Subject bibliographers/selectors at different libraries can visit the site http://oapen.org They can select individual book titles to forward to library reps and other faculty that might be of interest to their subject areas. The links can be couched in some text that teaches them about OA.

For example, I can send this title to women’s studies faculty at my college: http://oapen.org/search?identifier=448550;keyword=feminism

We can write up a template email that bibliographers can use for the email. We can also create a poster with book jacket images that directs people to the oapen site and other points of interest for open access.

We can also promote the open access button and encourage people to add it to their browsers and use it. Of course, considering that most of our audience will be CUNY-affiliated and therefore have lots of access through many paywalls, I’m not sure how successful this would be. Maybe someone will have a good idea about something that can be done with this button.

I’d be interested to hear what other ideas people have.

    Thanks for starting the conversation.
