9/20 Minutes & Looking Ahead

  Hello, and welcome to those of you who are new to the LACUNY Scholarly Communications Roundtable Commons group!

  Thanks to everyone who participated in the productive meeting on Wednesday, and I hope that future meetings will work for those who couldn’t make it. Notes from our meeting are available on Google Docs, but here are a few highlights:

  • To do: Update the roundtable’s mission (to discuss at October meeting).
  • We ran out of time and didn’t discuss the article What’s missing? The role of community colleges in building a more inclusive institutional repository landscape — pushed to October.
  • Speaking of articles: We agreed to structure many of our meetings around discussion of an article (shared well in advance). This will help us all develop our scholcomm fluency, stay up to date with developments, and imagine possibilities for CUNY.
  • There was enthusiasm for frequent meetings, limited to an hour. We agreed to try meeting monthly for an hour, alternating between the two most popular times from the Doodle for the September meeting (3rd Tues of the month at 3-4pm and 3rd Wed of the month at 4-5pm).

  So, with that in mind, these will be the meeting times for the next few months, all on Zoom — I’ll send this information out on CULIBS as well:

  • Tuesday, October 17 at 3-4pm
  • Wednesday, November 15 at 4-5pm
  • Tuesday, December 19 at 3-4pm
  • Wednesday, January 17 at 4-5pm

  (In January we can see if this model is working well and plan for the spring semester.)
