LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee

The LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee is dedicated to collaborative exploration of technologies that further the CUNY libraries’ missions. Through workshops, hack days, demoes, and other meetings, CUNY librarians learn new skills from each other and cultivate a community of openness, sharing, and encouragement.

  • Tableau Workshop

Please join the LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee for an upcoming workshop on Tableau.

Tableau is business intelligence software that allows anyone to easily connect to data, then visualize and create interactive, sharable dashboards. This session will focus on using Tableau Public. Tableau Public is a free service that lets anyone publish interactive data to the web. Once on the web, anyone can interact with the data, download it, or create their own visualizations of it. No programming skills are required. CUNY is currently using Tableau Public to share analytics data for the more than 20 libraries in the CUNY system. We’ll cover building a dashboard in Tableau, useful techniques for selecting and extracting data, as well as how to use an existing Tableau template to kick-start your own visualizations.

    Presenters:
Joan Kolarik, Digital Initiatives Manager at CUNY’s Office of Library Services
Ray Schwartz, Head of Library Information Systems at William Paterson University
