Improving Math Learning

This is an online community for the CUNY Improving Undergraduate Mathematics Learning grants awarded in 2009. All members of the CUNY community including the grantees and other math professors are welcomed to join the group.

    An interesting study regarding online vs. face-to-face courses at Virginia community colleges (http://ccrc.tc.columbia.edu/Publication.asp?UID=813):

    – Students with stronger academic preparation were more likely to enroll in online courses.
    – Regardless of their initial level of preparation, students were more likely to fail or withdraw from online courses than from face-to-face courses.
    – Students who took online course in early semesters were slightly less likely to return to school in subsequent semesters.
    – Students who took a higher proportion of credits online were slightly less likely to attain an educational award or transfer to a fou-year institution.
