CUNY Women’s Faculty Writing Group

Having become acquainted with each other at limited-term professional development groups during the pandemic, we decided to create a CUNY-wide women’s writing group that would meet regularly for the foreseeable future. Our mission is to provide a nexus of support for each other, sharing useful insights from each of our institutions, and fostering a constant helpful environment where we can find community, encouragement, and an ever-growing toolkit of career-enhancing resources. Our commitment to strengthening the success of CUNY’s diverse junior faculty population is reflected in our fostering of an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing group. We listen to and critique each other’s work in practical and constructive ways. We take an active role in helping our members generate the necessary scholarship that will result in their promotion and tenure and beyond that, in establishing a healthy and sustainable work-life routine that will prevent professional dissatisfaction or plateauing. We all uphold the belief that academic writing in a group results in enhanced work practices, rewarding social ties, and added resilience in the face of obstacles, which are all crucial towards our increased productivity and reaching our highest potential.
