Signing up for a second writing elective as a choice in the same semester some may say I’m rather insane or just have too much time on my hands. Choosing Writing for the Sciences English, was a class that interested me from the idea of writing in a formal and more facts based way. I am attempting to go into the medical field which requires writing and typing in scientific terminology. For instance to write a HPI it’s required to write a detailed explanation on why the patient is here, their confirmed history, and their assessment with what medical advice given. I can go on how this elective would have been used in my future career choice, and how it was effective in achieving goals I set.

I was able to address mine and my peers’ range of language differences, and resources found to be able to show rhetorical sensibility. I see rhetorical sensibility to be a proper phrased message for the audience in question to best understand what information is being given to them. Scientific terminology is not well understood by all of the audience that may be reading the work. This is why it is crucial to be descriptive while writing so that the audience may best understand their message that is being addressed to them. With practice and repetition I found myself accomplishing another learning objective, “enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment” Using grammarly and purchasing other subscriptions, that I will be very honest to help with my grammar. I grew up speaking Guyanese which is a dialect of English so out of habit, oftentimes I mix them both without trying. This is my greatest writing flaw that I still have to work on.  The third learning objective I would talk about it one I don’t think I was able to fulfill accomplish as well, “negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation” I think I failed in being able to fall under and write with the expected genre and mediums.

The fourth learning objective led for us to be able to develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes, which was successful in our assigned research group papers. I was able to work with two of my amazing peers, and put together a presentation that we were very proud to share with our class. My favorite parts of the writing was in our conclusion paragraph “ In any culture, aggressive conduct is an issue. Understanding the elements that drive violent behavior as well as how aggressiveness is exhibited is critical. Aggression is also characterized as being destructive, harmful, antagonistic, and frequently motivated by frustration. Aggression may emerge in a variety of ways. Such as the MAO-A gene, parenting styles, and or/ our “friendly” neighborhood. Aggressive behavior is seen in about 3% to 7% of children and adolescents.” The use of summarizing and using key facts helped best demonstrate this scientific research paper.

Engaging in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond, this is a learning objective I often had trouble throughout the entire semester trying to accomplish. This is because when it comes to basic analysis and being able to translate it over directly to generic terms is where I fall short on being able to do it.

This learning objective I can say I was able to accomplish, the ability to formulate and articulate a stance through and in my writing. I have a strong emotional side to when I write, which flows through into my papers and is the same reason why I choose to write about what I can be passionate towards as well. A great comparison on this is with the Scieftic Controvery paper I wrote this semester on Abortion and a paper I wrote in English compostion few semesters ago. If you compare the two pieces I wrote about the same topic but different approach, it is clear to read which one is the Scientific paper while the other is a paper on my emotional side and how I feel on the topic personally. From the paper I wrote back in dayb I used personal experiences as evidence not from an actual source.”I was able to use Planned Parent as a resource to help guide me into making a choice. Abortion is a hard choice to be made from the jump but having the right knowledge and right resources can help guide young teenagers as myself to making the right choice. I chose this after careful thought and discussion with my partner at the time as well as I had the required consultation with a therapist before getting the procedure done. Below you will see a picture of my sonogram of 8 weeks.” This was something that compared to my scientific controversy research paper i was able to address the other sides to abortion for instance, “A woman can take these medications by mouth or the doctor may place them into the vagina or inject them into the uterus.Doctors usually also administer pain relief medication or a local anesthetic, as intense cramping occurs during this type of abortion. “ [https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325582#labor-induction-abortion]. I took a reputated source to be able to talk about the actual process of what abortion is literally, than rather how one feels during the decision of abortion.

I was able to use the various resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources appropriate to my writing projects. Spending all day on campus with 4 classes back to back on one day, did help me be trapped in the library for more than enough part of my day. It made doing research more apparent and efficient.  To strengthen my basic source use practices (including evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources). This learning objective I was able to properly develop in this writing class, as it was more fact based writing than I have ever done.

Throughout this course I was able to betterment my writing style more than anything, which I am grateful for as I can use that in the future in the best way possible.  Learning the different styles of writing in more rhetorical terminology and factual based was one of my biggest accomplishments in this course.
