Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

A fascinating cast of radio and podcast producers, filmmakers, writers, and photographers bring their new, true multimedia stories to life on stage with animation, photography, sound, illustration, film, and original live scores. The night ends gathered around the bar, with the cast and audience mingling together.

Media people have said nice things about us: “A sensation” – New York Times | “Do not miss” – Los Angeles Times | “Always amazing” – Ira Glass, This American Life | “A huge hit” – San Francisco Chronicle.

Performers at the June 8 and 9 shows include: Yassir Lester (actor and comedian, Girls, Making History), Daniel Alarcon (novelist, At Night We Walk in Circles and host of Radio Ambulante), Gillian Laub (photographer), Fazeelat Aslam (director, producer), Dan Engber (Slate, Wired), Karen Duffin (This American Life), Carlos Javier Ortiz (visual artist), Lu Olkowski (CBC’s Love Me, Radiolab, This American Life), Sandra Allen (Buzzfeed, Paris Review Daily), Brittany Spanos (Rolling Stone), and more.
