Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

You are invited! Mexican Cyberpunk Film Sleep Dealer with the Utopian Studies Group

  • Dear all,

Join us for the Utopian Studies Group’s upcoming screening of the film Sleep Dealer (Alex Rivera, 2008). The film is a provocative Cyberpunk dystopia, set on the border between Mexico and the US in the near future. The wall between both countries is already finished, and a new business model has appeared based on cyborgs who are connected as a workforce through a computer network. This radical form of outsourcing exposes the potential of new technologies for social control and imperialist expansion.

Marcos Wasem from the GC Hispanic & Luso-Brazilian Program will lead a discussion following the screening.

Come join us for refreshments & film!
    DAY: Thursday, November 17th
    TIME: 6:30pm
    PLACE: GC, Rm 5414
PLEASE RSVP by Tuesday, November 15th to pstapleton@gc.cuny.edu

We hope to see you there!
