Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

Workshop – An Introduction to the US Census

  • I\’m teaching a workshop on understanding, finding, and accessing US Census data at the METRO NY Library Council on Wed March 20, 2019 from 9am-1pm. The workshop will be held at METRO\’s offices in Hell\’s Kitchen. There is a registration fee of $80 if you\’re not a member of METRO, but there\’s a reduced early-bird fee of $60 if you sign up by Feb 27th (for METRO members the fee is $40 / $30 for early-birds). You bring your own laptop, and drinks and snacks are provided.

The workshop is oriented towards librarians who want to help researchers find and use census data. If you want to gain a fundamental understanding of what the census is and how it\’s structured, and you want to learn about different sources for accessing and downloading both profiles and tables, this would be a good session for you. It is *not* a GIS or data analysis workshop.

Info about the session and a link to register is here:
