Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

Present your work at GCDI Conversations in Digital Scholarship on May 13

  • Hello all,

We are excited to share that the GC Digital Fellows are hosting an inaugural event on Tuesday, May 13th called GCDI Conversations in Digital Scholarship. The event will feature six facilitated round table conversations designed to build cross-disciplinary dialogue about the many ways that scholarship and research are changing in response to emerging technologies. Registration to participate is on a first-come-first-served basis. Participants will submit a 250 to 500 word blog post by April 29th, and the May 13th event will feature 2-hour facilitated roundtable conversations based on those posts.

    Topics this year include:

    • methods of performing qualitative research with AI,
    • building and using digital archives,
    • working with government data,
    • creating digital projects in languages other than English,
    • designing educational games,
    • and building open educational resources with Manifold.

Please encourage students, faculty, or staff in your programs, centers, and units to review the calls for participation and to consider joining us. Anyone with a GC affiliation is invited to participate. We are eager to hear more about how research at the GC is responding to technological shifts. We’re particularly eager to hear critical perspectives, as well as to share projects that push the boundaries of traditional disciplinary methods.

So much exciting work is happening across the Digital GC, and we’re eager to hear more about what our community is doing and to use this opportunity to build networks of discussion and collaboration.

To read the full call for participation and to register for the event, see the blog post at https://gcdi.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2025/03/07/gcdi-conversations/.
