CUNY Middle States Council

The CUNY Middle States Council promotes a culture of implementing effective practices in accreditation across CUNY colleges by:
• Supporting Accreditation Liaison Officers and/or representatives by dedicating time and space to discuss ideas, experiences, and practices related to their respective responsibilities with Middle States accreditation, such as meeting and exceeding accreditation standards, complying with required reporting, adapting to changes in requirements, and planning on-site visits;
• Fostering a CUNY-wide accreditation community of learning and practice by creating forums for cross-campus discussions and professional development related to accreditation;
• Sustaining strong relationships among CUNY Central, the colleges, and Middle States by serving as a liaison to Middle States and acting as an advocate for CUNY.

Membership is composed of selected accreditation support personnel from CUNY’s Central Office and representatives from each college who may serve in any of the roles listed below:
• Accreditation Liaison Officers,
• Institutional Effectiveness Leaders,
• Institutional Research/Data Reporting Officers,
• Assessment Officers,
• College Financial Officers,
• MSCHE Self-Study Evaluators,
• MSCHE Conference Presenters, and/or
• MSCHE Workshop Providers.

The council was started in the spring of 2018 by Tammie Cumming (then, Director of the Office of Assessment and Institutional Research at City Tech), Chris Shults (Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning at BMCC), and Michael Sachs (AVP and Dean of Students at John Jay), with the support of the Central Office of Academic Affairs. The inaugural meeting was held on May 9, 2018.
