I find it interesting that Facebook uses such a wide variety of different technologies (they use Erlang for their chat service!). I think this is characteristic of the 21st century computing environment. Here at CIS we use Tomcat and WebSphere, open source Apache, IBM’s HTTP server (based on Apache) and IIS. The load Facebook can sustain is truly awesome. On a busy day, over 80,000 students use eSIMS, during a busy hour it will handle over 60,000 transactions.
