TIME SENSITIVE: Seeking adjunct: Fall 2024 BMCC Intro French course in correctional facility

  • Hello CUNY Council on World Language Study,

I am an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Criminal Justice at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). I am also the Assistant Academic Director of the Prison to College Pipeline Program at BMCC. We are in partnership with John Jay College of Criminal Justice to offer an AA degree in Liberal Arts at the Otisville Correctional Facility in New York state. We are seeking an adjunct to teach an introductory 3-credit French course in the Fall 2024 semester at Otisville. I have included details about the position below.

Please share this with anyone who may be interested. Thank you for the consideration, Professor Michelle Ronda

    * Otisville is a state prison and a medium security facility, men only.
    * About 9 or 10 courses are offered in a semester, and you would teach one day a week, either: Mon, 6-9 pm OR; Tues, 12:30-3:30pm, or 6-9 pm OR; Wed, 6-9 pm OR; Th 12:30-3:30 pm; depending on your availability/preference.
    * P2CP classes are usually small and come with engaged and dedicated students (10-20 students).
    * P2CP provides a supportive community for teaching and learning.
    * A course at the prison counts toward CUNY workload for both adjuncts and full timers. Standard adjunct salary for adjuncts; the adjunct intro rate is $91.67/hr.
    * One would need to be able to drive and have a valid license – prison is approximately 1.5- 2 hours north of NYC. If one doesn’t have a car, Zipcars are an option. There might be carpooling opportunities, but we cannot make any guarantees about that. Public transit is not a viable option. P2CP reimburses cost of travel at governmental rates if using your own car or the cost of rental (Zipcar or other)
    * NYS Dept. of Corrections requires background check, fingerprinting, a TB test, and attending an in-person orientation.
    * Syllabus and course materials need to be submitted way in advance of the semester. For example, for Fall 2024, all materials need to be completed by June 1st.
