Artificial Intelligence in Education

Welcome to the “Artificial Intelligence in Education” group!
This group is dedicated to exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and education within the City University of New York (CUNY) community.

Our group aims to bring together educators, researchers, students, and anyone interested in the transformative potential of AI in the field of education. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, we strive to deepen our understanding of how AI can enhance teaching and learning experiences, promote personalized education, and address educational challenges.

In this group, we encourage discussions, sharing of research findings, innovative ideas, and best practices related to AI in education. Whether you are new to AI or an experienced practitioner, this group offers a platform to engage in meaningful conversations, explore cutting-edge technologies, and leverage AI tools and methodologies to improve educational outcomes.

Topics for discussion may include, but are not limited to:

1. AI-powered adaptive learning systems
2. Intelligent tutoring systems and personalized education
3. Natural language processing and language learning
4. Exploring the Role of Machine Learning in Analyzing Educational Data.
5. Ethical Considerations and privacy issues in AI-driven Education
6. Augmented and virtual reality in educational settings
7. Robotics and AI for STEM education
8. AI-enabled assessment and feedback mechanisms
9. Chatbots and virtual assistants in educational support
10. AI and accessibility in education

We encourage group members to share resources, research papers, case studies, and success stories related to AI in education. By fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, we aim to collectively advance our knowledge, address challenges, and explore the possibilities of AI to shape the future of education at CUNY.

Join us in this exciting journey as we explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in education. Together, let’s uncover innovative approaches and discover new opportunities to enhance teaching, learning, and student success.

Note: This group is not affiliated with any specific department or institution within CUNY and welcomes participants from across the university community interested in AI in education.

Unleashing Student Creativity through Art, Technology, and AI in Astronomy

  • To enhance my astronomy course for non-science students, my teaching innovation involves integrating various online information technologies, including AI. Building on previous implementation efforts, I plan to expand its application in the upcoming semester. By utilizing online resources (Google Sheets, Google Search, Wikipedia, Wolfram Alpha, MatLab, ChatGPT, Nightcafe), students will develop skills in operating with physical quantities, problem-solving, and critically analyzing search results. Additionally, they will creatively employ AI technology to produce artistic reflections and refractions of scientific astronomical ideas across art domains such as painting, music, poetry, video and so on. These activities will serve as a platform for artistic expression that reflects and refracts scientific concepts.

Drawing on Students’ Identities and Sense of Purpose:
By incorporating online resources and AI, my teaching innovation aims to engage students with astronomy on multiple levels, fostering exploration beyond scientific boundaries. This approach taps into students’ identities and sense of purpose, enabling them to connect their personal interests and passions with the study of astronomy. By expressing their understanding of astronomical concepts through various art forms, students will develop a stronger sense of belonging as college students. They will recognize themselves as active participants in both the scientific and creative dimensions of astronomy, empowering them to see astronomy as a source of inspiration aligned with their unique identities.

Assessing the Success of the Innovation:
To gauge the effectiveness of my teaching innovation, I will utilize a comprehensive assessment approach. Firstly, I will assign projects and assignments that require the integration of AI and artistic expressions related to astronomy. These tasks will allow students to showcase their comprehension of astronomical concepts while demonstrating their creativity. Evaluation criteria will encompass scientific understanding, artistic quality, and the ability to effectively communicate the connection between astronomy and their chosen art form. Additionally, I will gather qualitative feedback through class discussions and surveys to gain insight into students’ experiences, their perceived sense of belonging, and the impact of the innovation on their engagement with the course material. By considering both the quality of student work and their reflections on the learning experience, I will be able to determine the overall success of the innovation in achieving the desired outcomes.
