    InnovateEDU is looking for a Project Director for their AI and Education initiative. Position is remote and based in Brooklyn.

    Position

    InnovateEDU is seeking a full-time Project Director to manage and lead the organization’s AI and Education work. InnovateEDU is working to develop a safer, more secure, more equitable, and more trusted AI education ecosystem through a focus on research, policy, and practice. Our goal is to build and develop an ecosystem that reflects the best practices for AI use in education. This position has supervisory responsibilities.

    This is a full-time position with the ability to work remotely. Since March 2020, most InnovateEDU staff have worked virtually, and team members are expected to be available during typical office hours in Eastern Standard Time, with some flexibility available.

     

    Responsibilities

    Lead a Coalition of Organizations Working on AI and Education:

    • Coordinate and direct all coalition activities, ensuring objectives are met and align with our mission.
    • Manage fellowships focused on building capacity and community in the field of AI and education.

    Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Engage with various stakeholders including AI developers, policy makers, educators, and civil society to foster dialogue and collaboration.
    • Represent the coalition at conferences, workshops, and other public forums.

    Program Management:

    • Oversee the development and execution of projects and programs within the coalition.
    • Coordinate a national network of school district level labs to develop policy and practice aligned to the safe and ethical use of AI in education.
    • Ensure all programs are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.

    Team Management:

    • Lead and manage a small team of staff, promoting a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
    • Supervise a global team of consultants and subject matter experts who provide support across a range of programs
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship to staff members.

    Research and Development:

    • Stay abreast of the latest developments in AI and AI ethics.
    • Encourage and oversee research initiatives within the coalition.

    Moves boxes/equipment up to 50 pounds.

    Other duties as needed and assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Education
      • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Ethics, Public Policy, or a related field.
    • Experience
      • 3-5 years of experience in technology, education technology or science and education policy.
      • Knowledge of  AI, machine learning, or related technologies.
    • Skills
      • Strong leadership and managerial skills.
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
      • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
      • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
      • Proactive approach, with a strong sense of initiative and creativity.
    • Knowledge
      • In-depth understanding of AI and its ethical implications.
      • Familiarity with the current landscape of AI policy and regulations.

     

    Compensation

    Consistent with our diversity, equity, and inclusion statement, we strive to address systemic gaps in pay often present in our larger society due to gender, identity, or sexual orientation. All candidates are pay scaled by an independent third-party service or application, which calculates the market rate for the applicant based on skills and qualifications, job duties, market conditions within the location of applicant, education, and experience. This position’s compensation range is $89,000 to $100,000  annually. InnovateEDU full-time employees receive paid vacation and sick leave, medical/dental/vision insurance, retirement, and other benefits.
