Hands-on Workshop
Using Improvement Science to Build Teaching Effectiveness
Wednesday, February 15 – 3:30 – 6:30 – E242
Presenters:
- Amanda Meyer, Associate Improvement Science Specialist at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
- The MEC Accelerated Courses for Developmental Math Taskforce
This workshop will introduce participants to improvement science as applied to practice in classrooms and educational institutions. We will explore several promising practices for developing students' abilities to productively persist in the face of challenging learning experiences, and will provide tools for adapting and implementing these practices in diverse classroom settings.
The role of networked improvement communities to facilitate initiation and dissemination of “change ideas” will be described. Participants will leave this workshop with resources for developing a new practice, a concrete plan for applying the practice in a course, and a forum for sharing what they learn with their colleagues.
