Introduction to Doctoral Studies in English: English 70000 9 years, 3 months ago Included here is a transcription of an unpublished short story written by WEB DuBois around 1908, as well as a brief critical introduction to the text and a photo of one of the original typed pages of the story with DuBois’s handwritten edits. It’s a strange little origin story of industrial capitalism told in a fantastical mode with allusions as well to science fiction tropes of time traveling technology. The authors of the introduction link the story to DuBois’s interest in propaganda and Black Marxism. This got me thinking about science fiction as a genre of propaganda and curious about the relationship between communist aesthetics and scifi.
