• This link leads to an artist talk by Leah Gordon, who is a British Photojournalist and artist. In the talk she discusses her photo exhibit entitled “Kanaval” which is a contemporary examination of Haitian Vodou culture. I’m currently developing an interest in the colonial history of Haiti and the connections that can be made to America, and am particularly interested in the visual culture of Haiti. Her project touches on these interests, but her talk here also touches on her awareness of the British and American history of demonizing Haitian culture and her own possible implication in this process, as well as Haitians taking over the control of their own images. I’ve also added a link to a video of some of her photos accompanied by Haitian Rara music. I found this through a very unscholarly and unarchival Google search, but thought it was still worth a share.
