Theater Lesson Plan
Grade Levels: PreK – 2nd grade
Duration: 30-45 minutes
Theater Blueprint Grade 2
Benchmarks: Students activate and use their imaginations as well as the analytical and process skills associated with acting.
Students participate in group activities, including creative play, storytelling, pantomime and improvisationPerforming Arts -Standard 1:
Creating, Performing, and Participating in the Arts Students will actively engage in the processes that constitute creation and performance in the arts (dance, music, theatre, and visual arts) and participate in various roles in the arts.
Objectives: At the end of this activity the students will:
• Transform play areas to depict different community services
• Role play characters for jobs in the community for example, librarian, waitresses
• Use relevant vocabulary to express ideas

Skills: listening, following direction, expressing emotions, cooperation, team work, creativity, social awareness, language, gross motor
Time: After lunch/ Gross Motor Skills
Duration 30-45 minutes
Materials Needed: library center, dramatic play center, and menu
Lesson Sequence
• Today we are going use our experiences learned from our visits to some of the important businesses/ services visited on our school neighborhood walk. Recap some of the places visited, discuss location, importance of services and write names on the board.
• Show pictures of things related to services. Today you are going to work in groups to act out two places where we often visit in our community, the library and the restaurant.
• Do a 1, 2 count off to form groups, and then encourage students to decide in their group what roles who will play. Remind them of the kinds of jobs and how they serve the public, tools they use. Encourage them to be creative and use materials from other centers to bring their action to real life.
• Direct each group to the class library and dramatic center to set up props for scenes.
• Allow students to practice in their groups then perform for the class
Assessment: Informal observation, while students interact with each other, teacher will observe behavior and use a checklist to record as student role play in centers.
Modification Students with Special needs will get assistance as the need arises
