Panelists include Liz Accles, Executive Director, Community Food Advocates; Johanna Fernández, Associate Professor, Department of History, CUNY Graduate Center and Baruch College, Author of The Young Lords A Radical History; Stanley Richards, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction; former President and CEO of Fortune Society, and Nicholas Freudenberg, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Public Health at the CUNY School of Public Health, Senior Faculty Fellow and co-founder of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute
Based on their experiences as activists or scholars of activism, the panel will discuss how in this moment activists, health professionals, and academics can work with communities and residents to protect public health and social justice, using the lessons that health social movements in New York have learned over the last 60 years.
