    Hi all,

Sorry I couldn’t make it to the meeting this morning. However, I would like to share our library’s mobile site with everyone. This is the URL – http://m.library.citytech.cuny.edu

We’re using a Drupal 7 installation and running a jQuery Mobile theme so it displays correctly on browsers.

Since most of our students are connecting with iPads, we gave them a choice to switch between the regular site or the mobile one. This appears when they connect to our regular URL.

I’m not sure if the site is automatically switching with android phones, as we had problems with that over the summer.

We plan on doing some usability testing next year.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to share.

    Thanks
    Junior

    Hi Junior,

nice page! I also noticed that you added the catalog to the site.
I haven’t done that for our page, since the retrieved pages are not leading to “real mobile site”…
Have to admit I am rethinking of using your workaround though to give students the option to search on the go.

    best
    Stefanie

The IDS search is actually a nice mobile workaround. I used to link to WorldCat mobile on our mobile page, but the IDS search is pretty swanky: http://library.laguardia.edu/m/research

I guess we need to congratulate Junior for more than just the mobile library site he launched. I see in the latest issue of The Code4Lib Journal that he’s got an article published there that talks about the development of part of the site:

“Using PHP to Parse eBook Resources from Drupal 6 to Populate a Mobile Web Page.”

    Nice work all around!

It’s always humbling to learn the details of how the job was done. Kudos to Junior!

Thanks everyone! I’m actually in Las Vegas at the annual CCUMC conference to give a presentation about the evolution of our mobile site, and mobile technologies in general. I’ll post a link to the presentation sometime soon.
