  • Executive Vice Chancellor Logue, the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Policy Research, and the PhD Program in Urban Education cordially invite you to our annual lecture on higher education policy:

WEDNESDAY, Mar. 21, at 6 PM

    Phillip “Uri” Treisman
(Professor and Director, Charles A. Dana Center,
    University of Texas at Austin)

The Rapidly Evolving Landscape of Developmental Math Education: A National Perspective

Dr. Treisman was named a MacArthur Fellow (1992-1997) for his work on nurturing minority student achievement in mathematics. He developed a mathematics model challenging claims that the high failure rate of African American students was due to lack of motivation, educational background, or family emphasis on education. Treisman’s work challenged these hypotheses by replacing remedial approaches to education with an honors program that encouraged students to collaborate on problems in an environment of high expectations. He continues to observe the study habits of mathematics students and the effects of these habits on academic performance. In this lecture, he provides findings from his prior and on-going work.

The lecture will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm at:

    Macaulay Honors College
35 West 67th Street (between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West)
    1st floor lecture room
