Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

    Position Available: Freelance Project Manager for Crowdsourcing in the
    Humanities
    A Freelance Creative Project Manager is invited to apply to join up with a
    dynamic and creative research group involved with games and technical
    systems. We are seeking a 4-6 month creative project manager (with possible
    extension) to finalize the development and outreach of the crowdsourcing
    game platform Metadata Games (metadatagames.org[metadatagames.org]
    (metadatagames.org&d=BQMFAg&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw))
    and the initiatives from the newly formed Crowd Consortium (
    CrowdConsoritium.org[CrowdConsoritium.org]
    (CrowdConsoritium.org&d=BQMFAg&c=8v77JlHZOYsReeOxyYXDU39VUUzHxyfBUh7fw)),
    a group that helps libraries, archives and other cultural heritage
    institutions learn about, and use, crowdsourcing tools. Those with
    experience in (and a passion for) digital humanities projects,
    collaborative crowdsourcing projects, open source participatory software,
    and more should apply. He or she will be responsible for the leadership of
    laboratory projects, including but not limited to the following: overseeing
    technical details of software or print production; managing creative teams
    to stay on time and on budget; coordinating communications both within the
    group and to the outside through social media channels and written reports;
    contributing creatively to design as well as outreach; coding familiarity;
    organizing the backup and organization of data and software; The ability
    to think of the big picture ideas behind the project as well as to attend
    to the details of a project is key. Direct experience leading software
    projects (including game creation and server side development) is a plus.

    The position requires a good communicator with flexibility, a positive
    attitude, and a creative, inventive approach. Interest in open source and
    creative projects with social impact a plus. 3+ years of experience a plus
    but we will consider the right recent graduate as well with a project
    portfolio.
