Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

Brooklyn Historical Society DH project opportunities

  • Zaheer Ali started the topic Brooklyn Historical Society seeking proposals for 2 funded DH projects in the forum NYCDH Announcements

"Brooklyn Historical Society is currently seeking proposals for two WordPress-based projects (The same person or organization can submit proposals for both):

    1. To develop a tool within the WordPress media gallery to import and display Dublin-core metadata generated from PastPerfect Museum Software in the form of xml. BHS creates Dublin-core metadata using PastPerfect Museum Software and will populate the customized media gallery with an xml report on a periodic basis that will create new records and modify existing records. Records will represent photographs, fine art, artifacts, oral histories, archival documents, and films.

Proposals will be accepted within a cost range of $7,000 – $10,000.

    2. To set up a WordPress Multisite network that utilizes a custom WordPress media gallery tool (see RFP for WordPress Media Gallery) and design three microsites incorporating metadata, assets, and textual content.

Proposals will be accepted within a cost range of $18,000 – $20,000.
