I teach graduate and undergraduate courses on Victorian literature and culture. I recently published Romance's Rival: Familiar Marriage in Victorian Fiction (2016), arguing that the marriage plot was about social relations as well as desire. Earlier books include Novel Craft (2011) and The Forgotten Female Aesthetes (2001).
