I’m taking the Disability Studies in 19thc Literature course this term and have been searching for a topic for my term paper. We are permitted to write on a text from any period so I’m probably going to write on a contemporary science fiction author. I found this article on Project Muse and found it helpful for bringing in different strands of queer and critical race theory I have found less robustly addressed in disability studies. Obourn reads the Xenogenesis trilogy of Octavia Butler to think about how race and gender as constructed in relation to disability and how this effects our interdependence with each other and access to the material and social world.
