I agree with most of your first paragraph of how Solange grew up and why she makes her art, but in my opinion she does want to make art to represent her culture but more than that she wants to give a voice to black women.
I agree that Mathis used very descriptive language to describe Solange, the album cover was a good example of the many times she described Solange in a way readers could picture her.

I also found interesting the fact a social scientist would think it’s a good idea to send a group of people to somewhere unknown to them. Sending them to a place they have no history with to try and keep peace is not the way.
