Faculty Dining Room
Light refreshments will be provided.
This Safe Zone Training offers strategies for creating a welcoming environment to all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer/questioning (LGBTQ) members of the York College community. The primary goal of this event is to train faculty and staff on how to be an ally to self-identified LGBTQ students and colleagues.
Attendees will learn the following:
• How to direct individuals who seek assistance;
• Where support begins and ends;
• What issues to report (i.e. violence, hate speech, discrimination, harassment), where to report concerns and how;
• What to be aware of in terms of confidentiality and the law;
• How to promote emotional and physical safety;
• How to establish an identifiable network of allies equipped with lists of resources and safe spaces for LGBTQ persons on campus.
This event is sponsored by the York College Alliance for Sexual and Gender Equality.
