WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION?
from Martin Ruck
Senior Advisor to the President for Diversity and Inclusion
The Graduate Center, CUNY
The Graduate Center is conducting a study to examine how graduate students, staff and faculty view diversity and inclusion. We will be holding focus groups to hear how GC community members assess diversity and inclusion, and their experiences between and among members of different groups. Focus groups will be held separately for students, staff, and faculty. We are interested in the perceptions and experiences of the climate for diversity and inclusion at the Graduate Center with regards to issues of race/ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, ability, immigration status, and socioeconomic status. Findings from this study will provide an important context to further develop policies and practices to facilitate diversity and inclusion efforts at the Graduate Center.
Anyone studying or working at the Graduate Center is eligible to participate in one focus group, and we hope to recruit 65-95 participants for our study. Focus groups will be held in April 2018 and take approximately 90 minutes. Research Assistants who do not have supervisory roles will conduct all focus groups. Also, codes and pseudonyms will be used to protect the identity, privacy and confidentiality of all research participants.
