    > Dear Colleagues,
    >
    > GC Digital Initiatives has two upcoming workshops that we believe your constituencies might be particularly interested in. On November 1st, Rafael Davis Portela will be leading a workshop on markdown, and while the title of the workshop addresses dissertations, it could be equally applicable to masters theses or to other writing projects where students might be interested in working on open platforms (not Word) with the benefits of publishing to various standards ranging from LaTex to EPUB to PDF to RTF.
    >
    > In the second workshop, Olivia Ildefenso will help students plan and create multimedia narratives that make use of a cascading and scrolling interface. We get lots of questions from students about how to create such interactive narratives, and wanted to make sure we got the word out far and wide.

    > Workshop: “Format Your Dissertation Like a Pro: Writing with Markdown”
    > Thursday, November 1st, 2018 – 6:30 – 8:30 pm
    >
    > Markdown is a lightweight markup language that can be used in any text editor, is easy to read, and allows you to quickly convert your text into a website or a presentation. This workshop will introduce basic tools for writing your dissertation with Markdown, including formatting of titles, headings, subheadings, quotations, and references. It will also cover the automatization of things such as table of contents, bibliography, list of tables, and images. We will also touch on more advanced possibilities of markdown, including its integration with Github for tracking changes (version control), automatic backup, and measuring progress.
