Internships are a crucial part of the Master’s in Social Research at Hunter College.  These are still part of the requirement for the degree during the time of COVID-19, although the time horizon for completing the internship can be extended, if necessary.

Here is more information on the research internship, including a long list of places where previous interns from our program have spent time: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/sociology/graduate/research-internship

Right now, many of the usual sites for internships may be operating remotely with reduced staff and modified work schedules. Under these conditions, it may be the case that sites are reluctant to take on the added tasks of supervising an internship.

It may also be the case that sites are eager for help from new people with much-needed SKILLS to offer.

As you approach potential internship sites, I encourage you to think about the courses you’ve successfully completed in the program, what you’ve learned in them, and how those skills might be valuable to the sites you’re contacting.  Then, work with your internship supervisor (Hunter Faculty) to develop a plan for reaching out to potential sites.
