Welcome, and next steps

  • Hello everyone,

Huge thanks to all who joined us today for our Election Clapback Teach-In. An amazing list of resources and ideas is growing at bit.ly/electionclapback.

We agreed that ongoing actions are needed and began planning next steps. Big thanks to those of you who have volunteered to get started on important interventions:

    • Matt Gold volunteered to start drafting a faculty statement. He welcomes collaboration.
    • Rosa Squillacote offered up space and sample scripts for phone banking so that we can call key representatives and push for action.
    • Andrew McKinney volunteered to begin adapting the Election Clapback Syllabus into an even more usable, public, shareable format. He would welcome help.
    • Luke Waltzer offered to contact CUNY Law School to find out what kinds of advocacy services or resources are already available to the CUNY community
    • Kalle Westerling offered to find new ways to connect the various centers and initiatives at the GC so that we can collaborate on public programming.

This group can be whatever we need it to be, so please feel free to use it to share ideas, gather collaborators for a project, draft statements, or share joys and laments.

Thank you all for your energy and engagement as we work collectively to find ways to move forward.

    All my best,
    Katina

  • I’d like to know what kinds of media literacy resources can be found within the University regarding the press and the assault on freedom of the press we’ve been seeing- I’d like to help and wonder who else can share in this effort- is this the right forum to ask? An article is out today from this week’s upcoming NY Times Magazine section that I’d like to share- I know there are many and I’d like to collect those in one place too. Perhaps with a larger effort we could pull together other universities on this topic from the NY area and beyond and have a symposium-which organization is best positioned to fund and manage this effort?
