Hello everyone and thank you for an energizing meeting yesterday! I wanted to send out information about 3 upcoming meetings (one of which is tonight, the 16th) for CUNY Rising Alliance.

The CUNY Rising Alliance is a broad coalition of member organizations who serve, represent and minister to millions of New Yorkers. The communities and constituencies we work with are the most hurt by policies of austerity and disinvestment from public institutions like CUNY. Living in a city with record income inequality and profound, systemic racial disparities in education, our constituencies depend on a quality CUNY education to begin to level the playing field of opportunity.

A college education is the surest path to economic opportunity, intellectual fulfillment, and personal growth. It’s a critical public investment and a prerequisite for narrowing inequality. For a half-million students a year, the path to a better life starts at CUNY—The City University of New York. But CUNY tuition has increased 35% in the last six years and the quality of a CUNY education is at risk. After years of underfunding, CUNY is in danger of becoming an institution that reinforces economic and racial disparities. That’s why CUNY Rising is advocating for a Students’ Bill of Rights for ALL New Yorkers.

    The three meeting dates are:

Wed., Nov. 16, 6:30 PM at BMCC, Richard Harris terrace, 199 Chambers St. (Lower Manhattan Flyer, Facebook Event)
Mon., Nov. 21, 6:30 PM at City College, Faculty Dining Hall 160 Convent Ave. (Upper Manhattan Flyer, Facebook Event)
Tues., Nov. 22, 6 PM at Brooklyn Borough Hall, Hearing Room, 209 Joralemon St. (Brooklyn Flyer, Facebook Event)
