Hello dear all and any interested, in what we might have in mind for the mini-seminar and reading group meeting on tuesdays Feb 2 through March 2, 2:15-4

anyone wanting to enroll in a phd program for credit or no credit, writing a small report on independent study may of course do so… but in any case, my idea now about surrealisms (notice the plural) is whatever view we want to take on it singularly or collectively is fine with me

recently I have been thinking of sharing with you for the first meeting an interview with the poet Octavio Paz on various sides of surrealism and poetry — which is where I (personally) come in

for it has always been the interdiscplinary possibilities of both appeal to me

and have been also thinking of Hope Mirrlees’ long poem “Paris” of 1920, so pre-surrealism in the Bretonian sense

and I look forward to hearing from anyone joining us your particular side of things…

best to each and a happy (happier) New Year,

Oh just a Gothic Surreal Memory of hearing Octavio Paz read in the
Cathedral of St John the Divine.
    Quite the mind blowing occasion
(I can t recall if Paz read in Spanish or English- or both)

    the poems
    the man
the warm voice bouncing off the
    stone chapel walls…
