The president’s office at BMCC is sponsoring awards in the following four categories:

    a. Lyric poetry

    b. Dramatic monologue (which would include rap and slam
    poetry)

    c. Closed or traditional forms

    d. Performance poetry (submitted as video)

The deadline for award submissions will be in late February with the announcement of winners in early April. The poems will be judged blind and carry awards of $200 for the winner of each category and $100 for a runner-up in each.

A flyer and cover sheet will be posted here in the days to come.

Attached please find the flier for the First Annual CUNY Undergraduate Poetry Awards, the CUP Awards. Please encourage students to apply and make colleagues aware of the new awards. The submission deadline is February 28th and any questions can be addressed to me at jtolan@bmcc.cuny.edu. Just put CUP Awards as the subject line.

The last flier was apparently to large a file. I’ll try to post it in black and white.

Since I can’t download the quite gorgeous flier, you can paste this address into your browser and download the flier in color or black and white from there.

James, this is really great news.

I’m going to post the info on the Creative Writing at CUNY site (http://cuny.edu/creativewriting). Which reminds me: I’m always happy to post campus-based readings & related events within the “Writing Events” page. It’s best if organizers enter event info at http://events.cuny.edu/Submit_Event.asp (I often look through those listings to find events to add to the CW site, and the University Relations staff do the same for their work.)

In any case, let’s promote these awards! Fabulous opportunity for our students.
