    I thought this was a good quote from Michael Carroll explaining the significance of the World Bank choosing to adopt a CC license model:

    “Information and knowledge are different things. What happens to audiences who get access to the information but can’t convert it to knowledge? The creative commons copyright license allows users to republish and retranslate. This information revolution is still ongoing. Where will we be in 20 years? By using open licenses, by letting others reinterpret, the expert literature will be translated to different audiences. The open license helps inform science journalists, for example. Now journalists will have to look at the open material, assess what the expert has said, and make a judgment on that.”
