Some OA resources I’ve recently come across

  • Hi everyone,

This is a bit of a hodgepodge, but a couple of OA resources have come through my twitter/email stream lately and I thought they might be of interest to others:

    – The Directory of Open Access Books has launched! (http://www.doabooks.org/) Like the DOAJ for journals, it seeks to provide easy access to open access academic books. (Hat tip to Beth Evans)

    – Crack the Coursepack (http://crackthecoursepack.tumblr.com/) is an online comic created by students at McGill University in Montreal to explain academic publishing and copyright. it’s very Canada-focused, but a great, well-crafted resource nonetheless.

    – The Open Michigan Initiative at the University of Michigan is part publishing platform, part informational resource for creating and sharing open curricular materials and scholarly work (http://open.umich.edu/). OERbit is the Drupal-based platform that runs it (https://open.umich.edu/wiki/OERbit). I haven’t played around with this much, but it’s definitely food for thought.

    Happy Friday!
    Best,
    Maura
