Attendees: 6
(1) Google Analytics
We compared mobile statistics for our library websites for the time period of Sep. 1 – Dec. 31, 2011, and entered the data in this shared spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlbcP_7fnH81dGo5TGlVT3Y5bUZCY3JkYXBjMUNaSHc#gid=0
It would be interesting to see the data from other schools (feel free to add the data to this shared Google Doc).
Stephen Klein gave a quick tour of notable parts of the Google Analytics service.
(2) Designing a Library App vs. a Mobile Friendly Website
We talked about “responsive design” as a technique for web development that lets us have websites that work in a variety of screen resolutions. We talked about media queries and where you can learn more about them:

We also talked about Jakob Nielsen’s recent post at useit.com, “Mobile Sites vs. Apps: The Coming Strategy Shift” and how he recommends designing for mobile sites as a better long term strategy:

While looking at Stefanie Havelka’s presentation, we talked about the statistics from Pew Internet that relate to the debate over apps vs mobile sites that Stefanie used in her slides:

(3) bX Hot Articles

(5) Next meeting
It was agreed that we’ll use Doodle to poll for a date for next month’s meeting and that we’ll try to use CULIBS and this group site in the CUNY Academic Commons to promote the meeting.
