LACUNY Services for Incarcerated People Roundtable

The Services for Incarcerated People Roundtable provides a forum for librarians who support, or are interested in supporting, library services for incarcerated people to discuss current issues, broaden their understanding, and raise awareness of information barriers within the carceral system. The Roundtable connects CUNY librarians with other librarian-led groups, such as Prison Library Support Network, that provide direct services to incarcerated people, and serves as a resource for CUNY groups such as the UFS Committee on Higher Education in the Prisons and those working in prison education programs. https://lacunysips.commons.gc.cuny.edu/

Abolitionist Futures event with Dean Spade | December 9

  • You’re invited to PLSN’s final Abolitionist Futures discussion of the year – featuring a virtual (and free!) discussion led by the incredible DEAN SPADE!

WHEN: Monday, December 9, 7:30-9pm (EDT)

REGISTER HERE TO RECEIVE THE ZOOM LINK: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpcuChrD8tGdLMvuVc1PgryYHfdwDy-KFK#/registration
    (closed captioning will be enabled)

Join us for our last Abolitionist Futures meeting of 2024. We are beyond thrilled to be hosting the incredible Dean Spade as our guest. As part of this conversation, we’ll discuss a selection of Dean’s book Mutual Aid (a resource PLSN has used directly in its organizing work), and ways that groups like ours can reinforce our work, support each other through difficult conversations, and make major organizing decisions as inclusively as possible – all while remaining accountable to our stakeholders (specifically – the folks inside who rely on PLSN’s work!). Our evening will start with a general discussion about Dean’s work and experience, and then transition into a “case study” specifically about PLSN’s organizing and decision-making structure as it aligns with the author’s praxis. We’ll also share actionable steps in getting involved with the PLSN reference project.

While this conversation is free to attend, we will be sharing information about our 2024 PLSN fundraiser – going through the end of December! Attendees are welcome to contribute a suggested donation of $20 after the discussion (all donations through 2024 are matched 5x!)
