Interested in scholarly publishing and open access in Africa?

“Tragedy of the perishing scholar” is an editorial in a Kenya newspaper written by a Kenyan academic. Omanga explains how African academic publishing once was more robust and how low(er) quality and predatory publishing became prevalent. Best takeway: “To address this problem, it is important that universities and research institutions improve publication literacy among early career researchers in Africa.” Unfortunately, Omanga doesn’t reference AuthorAid, the chief organization supporting quality publishing in the Global South. Nevertheless, a great read.
