    Hello Everyone:

At the last meeting of the SCRT, we discussed changing the name of this Group. The main reason for doing so would be to have the name be more inclusive of our interests in OPEN-ness of knowledge and learning: open access, open scholarship, open educational resources and more. The impetus for a name change came when we merged the Open@CUNY blog to include both OER and SCRT Groups. The present name seems to limit our interest to scholarly communications. We think we might attract more followers on the Commons, if the name of our Group reflected a broader range of interest in OPEN.

Two names were suggested at the last meeting:

    1. Open Knowledge “OK” Roundtable
    2. Open Education and Research “OAR” Roundtable

We invite your comments and suggestions for a new name by replying to this email by March 20th. Then we’ll open it to a vote via an email form. We hope to announce the new name in April to the LACUNY Executive Committee.

Thanks for brainstorming with colleagues and sending in your name nominations!

–Madeline Cohen and Nora Almeida, Co-Chairs
