For those who attended and those who could not, here is a Summary of the Roundtable Meeting Friday, Sept. 15th, 2-4 pm

Looking forward to seeing you at our Nexty Event!– see below

    Topics Discussed:
    1. New name for Roundtable?

At the end of the meeting, we agreed to consider changing the name of the SCRT to reflect all aspects of open scholarship, education and publishing. We felt that “scholarly communication” might not reflect an emphasis on “open.”

Do you have a suggestion for a new name for the Roundtable? Post your suggestions here on this Forum topic. We’ll collect these ideas and discuss at the next meeting. (One idea has already been taken—there is another group on the Academic Commons called Open@CUNY).

    2. Blog:
We discussed the Audience for the OA@CUNY Blog. We agreed that the audience consists mostly of CUNY Librarians; CUNY faculty interested in Scholarly Communication, Publishing and Open Access; CUNY faculty/librarians interested in OER; Broader community outside CUNY interested in these topics.
Nora Almeida is heading up the Blog Working Group consisting of several members of the Roundtable. Nora and Roxanne Shirazi are working on blog configurations for PressForward and user configurations for posting. The Blog Working Group will meet in October to plan for new content, including events calendar .
The Blog now owns the Twitter account @OPENatCUNY

    3. Next Event
Great News! Polly Thistlethwaite and Jessie Daniels have accepted our invitation to speak about their book, Being a Scholar in the Digital Era: Transforming Scholarly Practice for the Public Good. The date is Friday, October 27th, 10 am – 12 noon, hopefully at the GC. More to come.

    4. OA Week/ OER Toolkit
OA Week is Oct. 23-29th. We will post events happening on CUNY campuses during the month surrounding OA Week on the Blog and/or on the OA/OER Toolkit http://guides.cuny.edu/open-toolkit
Monica Berger updated the Image Files on the Toolkit (thank you, Monica!). These can be used to promote OA. Madeline Cohen will update the Toolkit with information on OA Week 2017.

    5. Spring Event
Suggestions that we are looking into:
    • Webinar on “Selecting Quality Journals for Publishing”
    • Speaker on Science Communication.
