    Hi All,

I’m very pleased to announce this upcoming event and professional development opportunity co-organized by the LACUNY Scholarly Communications round table and the OLS Copyright and Scholarly Communications Committee. Find details and RSVP information below.

    EVENT Description

As CUNY rolls out new library-led open education and open scholarship initiatives the scope of our work has shifted dramatically. In light of these changes….

    • How is the \”labor of open\” impacting workload and staffing structures in our libraries?
    • How does the work of supporting OER and open scholarship overlap and diverge?
    • What expertise is needed to support open initiatives and do CUNY librarians have sufficient opportunities to gain new professional competencies?

This professional development opportunity for the CUNY Library community will focus on ideological and practical differences between library supported OER and Scholarly Communications initiatives. Structured as a half-day unconference, this event will include a keynote presentation by writer, educational technology scholar, and self proclaimed rabble-rouser Audrey Watters. Post keynote breakout discussions will be led by professional facilitator Tauno Biltsted. A questionnaire will be distributed prior to the event to identify priorities for the discussion.

During conversations centered around OER program sustainability, labor, and expertise, participants from across CUNY libraries will have an opportunity to reflect on how the OER grant has impacted their work. The goal of this conversation will be to identify knowledge gaps, articulate labor concerns, share experiences, and ultimately, outline a path forward for the library community (in the context of and beyond the grant).

Hors d\’oeuvres, desert, and coffee will be served.

WHERE: CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, Room 308

    WHEN: Friday May 4th, 2-6pm

    All best,

    Nora
