LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee

The LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee is dedicated to collaborative exploration of technologies that further the CUNY libraries’ missions. Through workshops, hack days, demoes, and other meetings, CUNY librarians learn new skills from each other and cultivate a community of openness, sharing, and encouragement.

    Python/Regular Expressions Hack Day

    Friday, March 28, 2014
    10am–1pm
    Hunter College Library Room E118

Would you like to automate some of the more tedious aspects of collection development? Or perhaps you have a great deal of data in an Excel document that needs taming. Join other CUNY librarians for a half-day Hack Day! This time we will be focusing on the uses of the Python programming language and regular expressions for working with data in CSVs and Excel worksheets. Bring your own laptop and come prepared to share knowledge, tools, and resources with your colleagues as you work on a project, or just explore.

Stephen Zweibel will lead the Hack Day. Attendees should come with an awareness of what Python is. An example CSV and script will be provided. Coffee and snacks will be served.
