LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee

The LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee is dedicated to collaborative exploration of technologies that further the CUNY libraries’ missions. Through workshops, hack days, demoes, and other meetings, CUNY librarians learn new skills from each other and cultivate a community of openness, sharing, and encouragement.

  • The LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee is dedicated to collaborative exploration of technologies that further the CUNY libraries’ missions. Through workshops, hack days, demoes, and other meetings, CUNY librarians learn new skills from each other and cultivate a community of openness, sharing, and encouragement.

    The first meeting of the 2014–15 academic year of the LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee established the general direction of the rest of the year’s activities. It took place at OLS on August 26, 2014.

    * * Considering reprising some workshops, incl. intro to Python and intro to HTML/CSS for library services

    The group was most interested in these topics, most of which have volunteer leaders:
    APIs (including Primo)
    DHBox (tentative)
    Git & version control
    Guide on the Side (collaborate with LILAC and/or walk through tech details of setting up Guides software/templates)
    Hacking Blackboard
    Raspberry Pi
    Responsive Web Design
    Information security (with focus on pedagogy)
    Web frameworks (e.g. Node.js, Twitter Bootstrap, HTML5 Boilerplate)

    The committee co-chairs will schedule these workshops and hack days in collaboration with the volunteer leaders. Stay tuned for the first activity of the year!
