What better way to ring in the New Year with an Emerging Technologies workshop! Please join us for a workshop on Git and GitHub. A description of this workshop and RSVP link can be found below. If you have any questions feel free to contact co-chairs Mark Eaton (Mark.Eaton@kbcc.cuny.edu) or Leslie Ward (lward@qcc.cuny.edu).

    About this workshop:

Ever been working on a project and wish you could keep track of the changes you made? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could go back to the original version? And what if there was a place to store lots of different versions of your work so you never have to worry about losing it again? Developers also wanted to do these things, so they created Git and GitHub! Git is an open source version control system for your code and GitHub acts as a repository for that code. This workshop will cover the ins and outs of using Git and Github.

    This workshop will cover:

    • Introduction to Git & GitHub; explain difference between the two
    • Introduction to GitHub website; review settings and options on GitHub account
    • Create a repository on GitHub website
    • Set up a repository on GitHub and invite collaborators
    • Fork and clone user or organization repository
    • Use branches on GitHub
    • Time permitting, “revert commits” – Git speak for undo changes

    When:
    January 19th, 2017, 2pm to 5pm

    Where:
    Graduate Center Library, Room C196.05
    365 Fifth Avenue
    NYC, 10016
