The LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee presents:
Usability Testing!
Monday, February 24th ; 10am-12pm
Baruch Library, Room 135
A free workshop that will teach you the basics of usability testing.
This hands-on workshop will help you learn how to gather evidence from usability testing that you can use to make design decisions based on how your students really use your website or the resources you link to (the catalog, databases, digital reference services, LibGuides, etc.) Stephen Francoeur, user experience librarian at Baruch College, will show you how to design a testing protocol, how to conduct a test, and what to do with the results.

Data Visualization Hack Day
Tuesday, February 18, 2014
10am–1pm
John Jay Library Conference Room
As big (and small) data sets become more accessible, summarizing and visualizing information has become more necessary — and more feasible! Join other LACUNY librarians for a half-day Hack Day. Bring your own laptop and come prepared to share knowledge, tools, and resources with your colleagues as you work on a project or just explore. Some ideas to get you going: how might you visualize a map of your library (like this)? Or could you display how many books in each subject area you have access to(like this)? What could you do with “Ask a Librarian” chat transcripts or reference desk transactions logs? Or perhaps you have domain-specific data to visualize!
Robin Davis will lead the Hack Day. Attendees should come with at least the germ of a project idea and some experience in a data/visualization tool. Sample data sets will be available. Committee members on hand at this Hack Day have experience in Excel, Python, Gephi, Adobe CS, JavaScript, and other technologies. Coffee and snacks will be served.
RSVP at http://bit.ly/jjhack.
